K-Family Highway Clean-Up Day

A stretch of Shawnee Mission Parkway was cleaner in the afternoon of October 30 than it was in the morning, thanks to the joint efforts of the Shawnee Mission North Key Club and the Old Mission Kiwanis Club.  Once each fall and spring, these K-Family members invest a couple of hours on a Saturday walking the northside and southside shoulders picking up trash.  In addition to scooping up numerous plastic and aluminum beverage containers, the team gathered fragments of hub caps and various other car parts.  Since there are always so many empty alcohol containers along this stretch of roadway, the project team planted signs along the parkway while they worked imploring passers-by not to drink and drive.  Kiwanis and Key Club performing an act of civic responsibility!
